I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Valvoline Express Care in Athens, GA. We brought my girlfriend’s car in for what should have been a routine, simple oil change. Instead, their negligence caused serious engine issues. During the service, they removed a tube that is specific to her vehicle’s oil filter housing and failed to reinstall it, likely discarding it. Because of this mistake, the engine was unknowingly being starved of oil for nearly two weeks. The car began making a loud rattling noise and started running poorly. We immediately took it to the Toyota dealership, where their technicians confirmed the oil filter had been installed incorrectly and that the required tube was missing. We had to pay to have the issue corrected. When we confronted Valvoline Express Care about their mistake, they refused to take responsibility or cover the cost of repairs. They essentially told us we were out of luck. We then contacted Valvoline corporate, only to be informed that this location is independently owned and not a corporate-operated Valvoline, meaning they would not step in to resolve the issue. Such kind staff! They helped reconnect a front blinker light that another location forgot to reconnect after changing my fuel filter. I appreciated the no charge and their calm, friendly demeanor!

Brian and Kenny were super nice, and they changed my oil quickly. True professionals. The free car wash also left my car sparkling!

I really wanted to give more stars, as the oil changes and general maintenance here have always been quick and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, my experience with the detailing department was frustrating and disappointing. I called on a Sunday to ask about getting a detail done the same day. They were hesitant due to the weather, which I completely understood — but the representative struggled to explain it clearly. Since I work in customer service, I basically had to interpret it myself and let them know I understood. I then asked if I could drop the vehicle off that same day (Sunday) so it could be worked on Monday. They said that was fine. It rained on Monday, so I wasn’t surprised that no work happened then. But by Tuesday, I still hadn’t heard anything. Instead, my office got a call from them asking why our company vehicle was parked on their lot and saying it needed to be moved — not realizing I was a paying customer who had dropped it off for a scheduled detail. I had to give them all of my information again, which was really off-putting. Why wasn’t there a clear record of my appointment or even my vehicle? I've driven across town for 15+ years because the detailing always has been exceptional. I suppose their standards gave changed. Whereas I've always been amazed at my car looking almost factory fresh, there's a laundry list of what wasn't done: trunk not vaccuumed, pinestraw still under wipers, crud in so many nooks and crannies and crevices, inside surfaces still smudged, crud on roof and hood, and more. The guy I think was the manager argued with me and wanted to charge me another $35 to clean what's always been done beautifully. The detailer didn't get serious until I started taking photos. I waited because I don't like posting negative reviews as everyone has an "off" day, but the arguing and the lazy attitude and the attempt to charge more was quite bothersome. They can't fix what they don't know, and I'm not sure they grasped my point when I still was there. I won't know as I won't go back.
